It constitute the highest summit of the Black Sea.  Situated around 70 km east of Rize it has been declared as a national park in 1994 and covers 52.970 hectares. 


Ayder Plateau has the best facilities in the park, especially for those trekking for several days. The mountaineering groups coming to the region are generally walking from the Yaylalar village of Yusufeli town in Artvin to the Ayder plateau of Camlihemsin town in Rize and complete their Trans – Kackar walk. 


Kackar Mountains are the most rainy forests of Turkey and have outstanding flora as well as unique in terms of streams. In accordance with the richness of flora, such as jackals, roe deer, wild boar, marten, hare, stoat, weasel, mammals, raptors, songbirds and wild rooster are available in the Kackar Mountains National Park. 


Altindere Valley which was turned into a national park in 1987 is the best known park in the Black Sea region, and lies to the west of Trabzon. The national park can be reached via the 48 km road connecting Trabzon to Macka. The flora in Altindere National Park is very rich, the dominant species being the Eastern spruce tree. Fir trees, Scotch pine, chestnut, oak, lime tree, willow, black pine, Caucasian honeysuckle, and forest rose all cover the area. The main species of animal are deer, roe deer, wild goats, wild boar, bears, wolves, jackals, foxes, and lynx, some of which owe their survival to the local flora. Most people visit between April and October, for trekking and to visit the monastery of Sumela.
