The Kornati islands are an archipelago consisting of 140 islands and islets covering an area of 114 square miles (300 square km). 89 of the islands are part of the Kornati National Park, which was established in 1980. With its natural beauty, numerous coves and crystal clear blue waters, it’s easy to see why this part of Croatia has been designated a national park. The largest island in the archipelago is Kornat – from which the group of islands gets its name.
George Bernard Shaw fell in love with the group of islands and said:
“On the last day of Creation God desired to crown His work, and thus created the Kornati islands out of tears, stars and breath.“
