Saint Jordi with Destination Spain

Saint Jordi is the patron saint of Catalonia and is celebrated with a special day on April 23rd each year in Spain. This day is also known as the Day of the Book and is a celebration of literature, reading, and writing. Saint Jordi is often depicted with a rose in his hand, and many people believe that he represents love and compassion. Our DMC partner Destination Spain shares that one of the most popular traditions associated with Saint Jordi is giving someone a rose. This can be done as a sign of love or appreciation, or as a way to wish someone a happy Saint Jordi's Day. Roses are also often given as a gift to teachers or librarians on this day.

Another popular tradition is eating a paella, which is a traditional Spanish dish made with rice, seafood, and vegetables. This dish is often served on Saint Jordi's Day, and it is said that eating paella will bring you good luck. Whether celebrating Saint Jordi's Day with a rose, a paella, or simply by reading a good book, guests should be sure to enjoy this special day in Spain!
