The Eastern Highlands are a 300km range of mountains forming a natural border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique. This awe inspiring mountain range is made up of three sections – Nyanga (to the north), Bvumba (centrally located near the town of Mutare), and Chimanimani (to the south).

These regions are all sparsely populated and are covered in rich grassland and forests – drawing visitors for it’s beautiful misty mornings, fresh mountain breezes and warm log fires!

The climate is generally cool and wet, making it ideal for growing plantation type crops, plus giving rise to numerous streams and waterfalls dropping hundreds of feet down the steep mountain sides. Large areas of the Highlands are protected, including the 171km2 Chimanimani National Park, which is a hiker’s paradise, and the 47,000-hectare Nyanga National Park featuring Zimbabwe’s highest peak and Africa’s waterfall.
The Eastern Highlands provide perfect terrain for horseback riding, hiking, golfing and fishing for those keen to take in the fresh mountain air, and offers a relaxing add-on to their Zimbabwean experience.
