Private visit of Yves Saint Laurent’s Villa Oasis
Yves Saint Laurent’s first visit to Marrakech marked the start of a love affair. That 1966 encounter captivated the couturier, and the city’s colours and clamour soon infiltrated his designs; with partner Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent promptly purchased a home in the medina, which would serve both as an unlikely refuge from the mania of Paris and an enduring muse.
A decade after his death, the designer’s devotion to Marrakech is appreciated by all. Having learned that the Jardin Majorelle – an expansive, peaceful garden developed in the early 20th century by the French painter Jacques Majorelle – was earmarked for demolition to make way for a retail development, he in 1980 purchased the plot to save it for posterity.
Now welcoming somewhere in the region of 850,000 people a year, it is the most popular tourist attraction in all of Morocco. Opened on a neighboring plot on October 19, 2017, the Musée Yves Saint Laurent displays a constantly changing collection of the designer’s most precious creations, with complementary displays documenting his life in Morocco and showcasing the best of the country’s arts and crafts, and We Plan Morocco can offer you the opportunity to visit this beautiful villa and its gardens on a. private basis!
